How to Use Tramadol

Take Tramadol orally as prescribed by your physician. Tramadol is normally taken every 4 to 6 hours as required. Use Tramadol exactly as prescribed and do not increase your dose or use Tramadol more frequently or for a longer period of time than prescribed, Tramadol can be habit forming. If take Tramadol for an extended period of time, do not stop suddenly without your doctor's approval. When Tramadol is used for an extended period it may not work as well and may require a different dose. Consult your doctor if Tramadol stops working as well.

Side Effects Of Tramadol

Tramadol may cause the following side effects; dizziness, weakness, incoordination, nausea or vomiting, stomach upset, constipation, headache, drowsiness, anxiety, irritability, dry mouth, or increased sweating. If any of these side effects persist or worsen tell your doctor.

Tell your doctor if you develop any of the folowing serious side effects; chest pain, rapid heart rate, skin rash or itching, mental confusion, disorientation, seizures, tingling of the hands or feet, trouble breathing.

In the unlikely event that you have an allergic reaction to Tramadol, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, breathing trouble.

If you notice any effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Tell your doctor your complete medical history, especially about: kidney disease, liver disease, seizure disorder, lung disease, history of drug or alcohol dependency or any allergies you may have.

Limit alcohol intake as it may add to the dizziness or drowsiness effects caused by Tramadol. Use caution when performing any tasks requiring alertness, for example driving.

During pregnancy Tramadol should be used only when clearly required. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits.

Tramadol is excreted into breast milk. The effects on a nursing infant are not known, therefore consult your doctor before breast feeding.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor about all prescription and nonprescription medications you use, especially about: carbamazepine, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), drugs used to aid sleep, antidepressants (e.g., SSRI-types such as fluoxetine or fluvoxamine), MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), psychiatric medicine (e.g., nefazodone), "triptan" type drugs, anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam), sibutramine. Also, report use of certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine) which are also present in many cough-and-cold products.

Do not start or stop any medication without doctor or pharmacists approval.

Tramadol Overdose

If an overdose of Tramadol is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include cold and clammy skin, low body temperature, slowed breathing, slowed heartbeat, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, deep sleep, loss of consciousness, or seizures.

Missed dose Of Tramadol

If you miss a dose of Tramadol take it as soon as you remember, do not take a dose if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to catch up.

Tramadol Storage

Tramadol should be stored at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C).

Keep Tramadol away from heat and light.

Do not store Tramadol in the bathroom.

Keep Tramadol out of the reach of children.
